Steve Read Wins "Sweat Bowl" at Truman

Here is the results of our Truman Tournament held June 27-28.

3rd-Jonathan Gott 1st-Steve Read 2nd-Ed Powell

The Pony Express Bass Club of St. Joseph held its 3rd tournament of the year with top honors going to St. Joseph angler Steve Read. Read used a Mann's Minus 8 chartreuse with blue back crank bait to catch 6 keepers weighing 19.86 lbs. Read fished the main Osage Arm on secondary points in pockets. Read concentrated on buck brush in these pockets. Read also had big bass honors with a fish weighing 5.75 lbs.

Cameron angler Ed Powell finished second with 5 keepers weighing 10.95 lbs. Powell caught all of his keepers on a water melon candy colored plastic Zoom Super Hog. Most of Powell's fish came in 2-5 feet of water on isolated brush and bushes in the Osage Bluff area the lake.

Third place went to Jonathan Gott of Warrenton, MO with 3 fish weighing 8.67 lbs. Gott used a Senko and a Mojo rigged 10 inch =
black/blue flake Berkley Power Bait plastic worm

In fourth place was Kevin Swink of Gladstone. Swink caught 3 bass weighing 7.64 lbs. Swink used a water melon/red Super Hog on isolated =
stick ups and bushes on secondary points in the Osage Arm.

Fifth place went to Cameron angler Gary Highfill which caught 2 bass weighing 7.09 lbs. Highfill used a 5/16 oz. Eakins black/blue jig and a 10 inch black/blue flake Berkley Power Bait worm.

The lake was approximately 9 feet high with water colors ranging from clear to very muddy depending on location. Surface temperatures were in the upper 80's to low 90's.

After 3 tournaments Ed Powell of Cameron leads the club with 101 pts. 2nd is Don Gossett of St. Joseph with 95. 3rd is Jonathan Gott of Warrenton with 93. 4th is Gary Highfill of Cameron with 92 and 5th is Larry Piper of St. Joseph with 70.

The club's next tournament will be held on Mozingo Lake near Maryville on July 11-12.
