BACK

The Pony Express Bass Club held its second tournament of the season at Pomme de Terre Lake.
The lake was 10 feet high and water conditions ranged from clear in the main lake to stained to muddy in the river arms.
Russell Matt of St. Joseph bested all anglers with 9 bass weighing 18.83 lbs. Like all of the anglers fishing
flooded trees and bushes was the main pattern. Matt was using water melon candy colored Super Hogs to catch his fish.
He mainly concentrated on the 3-7 foot depth. Matt fished in coves off of the main lake in the Pomme River area.
Matt also took big bass honors with a 3.67 lb. fish.
In second place was Cameron angler Ed Powell. Powell weighed in 5 bass weighing 9.67 lbs. Powell used a Pop-R, black and
blue jig, chartruese Wiggle Wart and a Super Hog in water melon candy color to catch his keepers. Most of Powell's fish
came in the 8-10 foot depths off of the flooded structure in coves in the Pomme Arm.
Another Cameron angler Gary Highfill finished third with 3 bass weighing 5.91 lbs. Highfill used a water melon colored
Super Hog and a Carolina rigged Baby Brush Hog for his keepers. Highfill fished in the Pomme Arm concentrating on
secondary points in coves.
Steve Read of St. Joseph finished fourth with 3 bass weighing 5.53 lbs. Read was using a green pumpkin colored lizard on
steep banks. Most of his fish were in the 3 foot range off of the banks. He also was in the Pomme Arm of the lake.
Rounding out the top 5 was St. Joseph angler Don Gossett with 4 bass weighing 5.52 lbs. Gossett was throwing a
Carolina rigged water melon candy colored Brush Hog and a peanut butter colored Fluke in the back ends of coves in
the Pomme Arm.
The high flood water conditions made for a tough tournament.
The club did manage to catch 30 keepers weighing 55.25 lbs.
