Bill Gott of Warsaw, MO moved from 3rd place at the end of day one to capture the title at Truman Lake. Gott finished the tournament with 8 bass weighing 21.51 lbs. Gott was fishing in the lower Osage region of the lake and in Hoggles Creek. His main baits were a 10 inch blue fleck and a cotton candy colored Power Worm. Gott concentrated on points and flats pitching to big pole trees in 4-12 feet of water.
Wally Dale of Shawnee, KS finished a close 2nd with 6 bass weighing 21.45 lbs. Dale was fishing in the lower Grand Arm up around the Long Shoal area using black and white buzz baits, a Pop-R and a cotton candy colored Super Hog plastic crawdad bait. Like most of the top anglers he concentrated on points and flats off of the main lake. Dale also took big bass honors with a nice 5.08 lb. fish caught on a buzz bait.
Russell Matt of St. Joseph finished 3rd with a nice string of bass weighing 18.22 lbs. Matt's bait of choice was a cotton candy colored Super Hog pitched around pole timber and cedar bushes on the flats up in the Pomme River. Matt's fish came anywhere from 4-10 feet.
Larry Piper of St. Joseph finished 4th with 6 bass weighing 16.95 lbs. Piper used a cotton candy colored Super Hog plastic bait, a 10 inch blue fleck Power Worm and a black/blue jig for his fish. Piper concentrated on the lower Osage River on points and flats containing pole timber in the 10-12 feet depths.
Kevin Swink rounded out the top 5 with 4 bass weighing 11.27 lbs. Swink fished the lower Grand Arm and used a white buzz bait and a shallow running R.C. 1.5 crank bait tossed on the flats and points.
The lake was clear and approximately 2 feet high. Surface temperatures ranged from 80-83 degrees. This was the 6th of 7 tournaments for the club. The last scheduled club tournament will be held on Pomme de Terre Lake Sept. 13-14.
